Chiloé
Through heritage projects, we seek to recover and enhance the value of the Chiloé churches, a unique example of religious architecture in Latin America and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Know moreWe organize and hold auditions for theaters, festivals, competitions and coaches from around the world to showcase the talent of Chilean and Latin American singers to experts from the global opera circle, as well as to help build international networks in the industry. Our efforts facilitate opera singers’ access to these events, bringing artists together in the same place with representatives of the most important theaters in the world.
As part of this program, we hold the South American version of the Laffont Competition for the Met Opera in New York and we are the Latin American representatives of the Paris Opera Competition, among other similar arrangements.
To further strengthen the artists’ professional training, we conduct master classes with leading international virtuosos in music and opera singing, who share their expertise in different techniques, styles and repertoires with the students.
Some of the coaches invited to this program include Austrian pianist Helmut Deutsch, German-Israeli pianist Eytan Pessen, German countertenor Matthias Rexroth, American artistic consultant David Blackburn and Chilean opera singer Javier Arrey, among others.
Through this program, the Ibáñez Atkinson Foundation provides financial support to talented Chilean musicians to fund their studies and other opportunities for artistic and professional development and refinement. Opera singers, instrumentalists and choir and orchestra conductors have received support for their tuition, fees or living expenses for undergraduate and graduate studies in Chile and abroad.
Likewise, as part of our commitment to the new generations of artists we support, FIA scholarship recipients receive ongoing coaching and guidance from the foundation.
We also support scholarships from the Friends of the Santiago Municipal Theater Foundation and award the Sylvia Soublette Scholarship to partially fund a Master’s Degree in Singing at The University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar (Germany) for outstanding students from Universidad Alberto Hurtado.
