We believe in the potential of reading for learning, information and recreation.

For this reason, we foster the learning of literacy skills and the formation of readers from early childhood.

El Placer de Oír Leer Read-Aloud Contest

Organized by the Ibáñez Atkinson Foundation, El Placer de Oír Leer is the largest read-aloud contest in the country. Since 2014, this initiative has been highlighting the important role reading aloud plays in integral child development, helping enhance key skills such as self-esteem, critical and creative thinking, concentration, listening skills and a love of reading, among other essential attributes.

The contest is organized by the Ibáñez Atkinson Foundation in association with Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile—through its schools of Education and Letters and its Biblioteca Escolar Futuro initiative—and NTV, and is sponsored by Editorial SM, IBBY Chile and the Palabra Foundation. It has impacted more than 250 thousand children throughout the country since its creation in 2014.

Yo Te Cuento Video Contest

This reading promotion contest was created in 2023 as an extension of El Placer de Oír Leer, the largest read-aloud contest in Chile. It invites students from all over the country to share their love for reading through a video recommendation of a book they find particularly interesting.

Lectura Educa Education through Reading Program

The Lectura Educa program promotes reading from early childhood through eighth grade in the community of Huiscapi in the La Araucanía Region. It includes a reading promotion plan to help students acquire and develop the habit of reading, and the Primero Lee program, carried out together with the Crecer con Todos Foundation, which aims to develop comprehensive reading and writing skills.

Lectura Educa includes various activities such as training teachers, librarians and parents; conducting reading mediation sessions; organizing creative writing contests and workshops; outfitting libraries and reading spaces; organizing reading-related talks from writers and agents, among other initiatives.
